Pomerode is a municipality located in the state of Santa Catarina, in southeastern Brazil. It was founded by Germans, and the first thing you notice when coming into Pomerode is the beautiful German architecture. It is common for people there to be bilingual, speaking both German and Portuguese. Pomerode has a manufacturing industry, and that is what drew the Haitian community to the area as they were seeking jobs.

Pastor Dumassias Constant spent several years in Peru working there before moving to Brazil with his wife, Renette. They made the choice to move during a time when Brazil opened its borders to Haitians while Peru was implementing stricture policies for refugees to be able to remain in the country. Despite that difficulty, the driving factor was for them to be able to bring their oldest daughter from Haiti to be with them as they started a new life.

Upon arriving in Pomerode, Dumassais was met with the fact that there were many Haitians in the area working in factories, but there was no church for the Haitians to attend in a language that they could understand. In 2015, Dumassais founded Maison de Restauration and began preaching the gospel in French Creole to the Haitian community.

There are 50 adults and 18 children who make up the congregation. During a normal week, they meet together on Fridays for a prayer service, on Saturdays for Bible Study, and on Sundays for church. During the week, it is also common for them to share meals together, practice for the worship team together, and work together in factories in the community.

Maison de Restauration means Restoration House, and their mission is to win souls for Heaven, restore souls with the word of God, and comfort these souls by sharing the love of Jesus Christ. In the future, Dumassais dreams of the church buying its own building and musical instruments.

As a church, Restoration House serves the community by guiding, orienting, and helping the Haitian people without discrimination. They have seen many people saved, restored, and baptized. Restoration House is a beacon of hope for Haitians living in Pomerode, and shines the light of the gospel in the community to all people.
